What do you think?

In May, we asked you to share your thoughts, suggestions and experiences so we can improve the delivery, visibility and promotion of services in French.

We took your feedback into account in preparing the draft of a new strategic framework on services in French covering the period from 2018 to 2022.

We would now like to hear your thoughts on the draft of the new framework so we can make sure we haven’t forgotten anything. You can also send your comments to french.communications@gov.yk.ca.

About the Strategic Framework

The new 2018–2022 Strategic Framework on French Language Services follows on the heels of the 2014–2018 plan and is part of the government’s renewed commitment to improve its communications and services in French in the coming years.

This framework is a roadmap for successfully implementing the active offer model across the government in a continuous and coherent manner.

I'm ok with electronic bilingual but I find it OFFENSIVE AND INSULTING TO BE SPOKEN TO IN FRENCH ON THE PHONE AND IN OFFICES.
Je suis d'accord avec l'électronique bilingue, mais je trouve cela offensant et isolant d'être parlé en français sur le téléphone et dans les bureaux.

Access to services in French is particularly important to me when it comes to administrative procedures with the Government of Canada or the Yukon and especially with health services.
L'accès au services au français est notamment important pour moi lorsqu'il s'agit de démarches administratives auprès du gouvernement du Canada ou bien du Yukon et surtout auprès des services de santé.

When it comes to health and safety. During the seasons of forest fires or floods, press releases are in English and a few days later, we receive it in French, often when the danger is no longer. Electronic road condition announcements along the way are in English only. It would be important that they be in French too.
Lorsqu’il est question de santé et sécurité. Lors des saisons de feux de forêt ou d’inondations les communiqués de presse sont en anglais et quelques jours plus tard, on le reçoit en français, souvent lorsque le danger n’est plus. Les annonces électroniques sur la condition des routes le long du chemin sont seulement en anglais. Ce serait important qu’elles le soit en français aussi.

Make management and teams aware of Active offer program. More training, more publicity around it. Have services that are used by people

Have a bilingual service offer in all tourist locations, such as Tombstone Territorial Park with Yukon Parks. The significant traffic in this park requires bilingual positions.
Avoir une offre de service bilingue dans tous les lieux touristiques, comme le parc territorial Tombstone avec Parcs Yukon. L'achalandage important de ce parc nécessite des postes bilingues.

What bothers me is that you have to ask for it in several places and often it is a service at the end of a telephone line that someone translates for me. Or the person offering the service in French is not there that day and no option is offered. So it's easier and faster to do it in English.
Ce qui m’embête c’est qu’il faut le demander à plusieurs endroits et souvent c’est un service au bout d’une ligne téléphonique que quelqu’un traduit pour moi. Ou bien la personne qui offre le service en français n’est pas là ce jour là et pas d’option est offerte. Alors c’est plus facile et rapide de le faire en anglais.

Increased health services for older people at various facilities and mental wellness & health service in French

Services are more and more offered on the government website, however the French version is often late in coming and no longer corresponds to the English version. It is important that services are offered in both languages at the same time.
Les services sont de plus en plus offerts sur le site du gouvernement, par contre la version en français tardes souvent à venir et ne correspond plus à la version anglaise. C’est important que les services soient offerts dans les deux langues en même temps.
